Almost end of 2nd week...
So far, the new design lecturer, Linda, has been absolutely fantastic. She's like a breath of fresh air after all these years of stuffy, boring and ana... uh, nevermind... lecturers. I love her style: NO RULES. So basically, right now we're constructing our mood boards, and I'm going all out -- crazy. I love it! Next week, we'll start sketching our designs.
I'm sick now, so it wasn't the best day for me, today. My nose is stuffed up, but running (how does that work?!) on one side, so I have difficulty breathing, and it's giving me a headache. Horrible. Plus 2 different sewing machines gave me hell today when I was trying to sew my final pieces for the children's wear (the one we designed last term). It screwed up my fabric as well. So now I have to re-cut. I think the dateline's tomorrow. Sigh. I'll try...
We had our first presentation for the term today. It was for Liz's Styles and Trends Research class. We had to research the trends for this lame-o country for year 2005 (so far) and do a presentation. I picked the Fitness Trend and basically crapped my way through. Made a minor information blooper (oops!) but it's all right.
I've been living in the future the past week. I've been researching universities, trying to a find a suitable uni which offers a degree in fashion design. I'm leaning towards England. I wanted London, at first, but the cost of living there is ridiculously high if you consider the exchange rate and everything (about 7 ringgit to a pound). So I researched the surrounding cities, and I found that Brighton (in Sussex, which is south of London) appealed to me most.
The University of Brighton (Grand Parade campus) is right next to the beach, in the city centre. Wonderful! And it's only about 30~50 minutes to London, depending on the form of transportation. Being by the beach means the weather won't be as cold as the inland (which is good for me, since I'm cold-intolerant). The course looks good, too! 4 years plus sandwich. Sandwich is like industrial placement. A whole year. Wow. I'm still gonna keep my options open, look around a bit more, but Brighton sounds so, so good!
I ought not to get my hopes up and dream so much, lest I don't get to go/don't get accepted. Oh, well. It makes for a good time daydreaming anyhow!
